Pakistani FM Qureshi held meeting with Iranian President in Tehran

TEHRAN, Iran: The Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi paid a courtesycall on the President of Iran Seyed Ibrahim Raisi in Tehran on October 26,2021.

Special Representative for Afghanistan Ambassador Muhammad Sadiq,Pakistan’s Ambassador to Tehran, Rahim Hayat Qureshi, and senior officialsaccompanied the Foreign Minister.

The foreign minister conveyed greetings from leadership and said thatPakistan attached high importance to its bilateral relations with Iran,based on geographic proximity, common border, and shared objectives ofpeace and development. He added that the bilateral relations had beenfurther strengthened due to recent high-level engagements.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi thanked President Raisi for Iran’s consistent supporton the Kashmir issue, especially from Supreme Leader. The people of Kashmirlooked towards Iran’s steadfast support in their just struggle.

The foreign minister briefed President Raisi on Pakistan’s efforts to helpachieve stability in Afghanistan. Given the precarious economic situationin Afghanistan, he called for sustained engagement and urgent provision ofhumanitarian assistance to Afghan brethren by the international community.

Qureshi added that it was important for the neighbors of Afghanistan tohave continued consultations for a regional approach as peace inAfghanistan would lead to stability, economic development, and regionalconnectivity.

President Seyed Ibrahim Raisi welcomed the foreign minister and conveyedbest wishes for Prime Imran Khan.

The Iranian president underlined the need for continued enhanced engagementbetween the two countries to further promote bilateral relations andadvance shared objectives of a peaceful, stable, and prosperous Afghanistan.

The Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi reiterated Prime Minister ImranKhan’s invitation to President Raisi for a visit to Pakistan. PresidentRaisi thanked for the invitation and said that he looked forward to visitPakistan at a mutually convenient date.
