Russia holds crucial meeting of 10 countries including Afghan Taliban government

In Russian capital Moscow, official from ten countries including Talibaninterim government delegation will meet on Wednesday to discuss securityissues in the region particularly action against Islamic State fighters.

The Taliban delegation is headed by Deputy Prime Minister Abdul SalamHanafi.

Russia’s foreign ministry has said that one of the aims of the Moscowmeeting is to consolidate the efforts of the international community toprevent a humanitarian crisis.

It also said the formation of an “inclusive government” would be on theagenda, and that parties to the talks are expected to release a jointstatement afterwards.

Meanwhile, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has regretted the absenceof U.S. officials from international talks on Afghanistan with the Talibanin Moscow today.

The United States had said it would not join this round of talks in theRussian capital due to technical reasons but planned to do so the future.
