Pakistani Cardinal Joseph Coutts blamed the “duplicity, the hypocrisy,” ofthe United States and the European Union for the oppression of Christiansin the region.

Pakistani Cardinal spoke with Crux in Rome on Monday during which he alsodiscussed the rejection of a bill by Pakistan’s parliament regardingbanning forced conversions.

He also discussed the present government’s decision to enforce a “uniformcurriculum” in the country.

“As we’re going through it, we have found that it’s not the kind ofcurriculum that is preparing the future generation to live in amulti-ethnic, multi-religious society,” he said.

The cardinal was of the view that whatever happens in the West, theChristian minority pays for it here.

“They see us (Christians) as the devil, the product of colonialism. Ifanything happens in the West, for instance, God forbid, a blasphemy casesomewhere, we were on pins and needles, because one more church to beattacked, a few more Christians will be brutally killed”.

He said that Pakistan’s founder, Muhammad Ali Jinnah, made a beautifulspeech during the first session of the first parliament in which he said,“We are now free, you are free. You’re free to go to your mosques, to yourtemples, or any place of worship”.
