OIC emergency meeting on Afghanistan scenario

RIYADH – The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) will hold anemergency meeting to discuss the situation in Afghanistan on Sunday.

The meeting comes at the invitation of Saudi Arabia after the Taliban’slightening conquest of Afghanistan

Earlier in the day, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, co-founder and deputyleader of the Taliban movement, on Saturday arrived in the Afghan capitalas part of the group’s efforts for forming a new inclusive government inAfghanistan.

Reports said that Baradar would hold meeting with jihadi leaders andpoliticians to discuss the inclusive government set-up, a demand by theregional countries, including Pakistan.

A number of senior Taliban leaders, including Khalil Haqqani and AnasHaqqani, were also seen in the capital since the takeover.

Both Haqqanis held separate meeting with Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, a formerstring rival of Taliban, former president Hamid Karzai and AbdullahAbdullah.

The Taliban have clearly stated that they want to establish an inclusivegovernment, but they have given few details of who it would include.

Meanwhile, thousands of Afghans and foreign nationals are scrambling toleave the country after the group took control of the country.
