The expiration date of the Automotive Development Policy (ADP) 2016-21 andthe release date of the 2021 budget is drawing closer. Meanwhile, thegovernment is preparing to welcome a paradigm shift in the local automotiveindustry.
While discussing the matter with the media, the Special Assistant to thePrime Minister (SAPM) on Climate Change, Malik Amin Aslam, stated thatPakistan will have a huge influx of Electric Vehicles (EVs) by the end of2021 after the introduction of the Automotive Industry Development andExport Plan (AIDEP) 2021-2026 and the new EV policy.——————————

The SAPM added that this development is aimed at improving the economy, reducing pollution, and creating better opportunities for Pakistanis.
He said that after the introduction of the EV policy for two-wheelers andthree-wheelers, electric bikes, rickshaws, and small commercial vehiclesare becoming a norm in Pakistan, and that the new EV policy for 4-wheelersand these other vehicles seeks to do the same for passenger cars andcommercial vehicles.
Aslam further highlighted that the new EV policy will catalyze thedevelopment of eco-tourism, aided by the normalization of electric means oftransportation across the country. He reiterated that this development willcreate jobs and will rehabilitate Pakistan’s environment across the country.——————————
While this news is promising, the question of whether the currentinfrastructure will be able to cater to the imminent influx of EVs inPakistan still remains. Only time will tell if the government is able tomanage resources aptly to deal with the sudden paradigm shift.
