Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi says Pakistan attaches hugeimportance to its trilateral mechanism with China and Afghanistan forenhancing cooperation and coordination in the areas of shared interest.
In his virtual address at the 4th China-Afghanistan-Pakistan TrilateralForeign Ministers’ Dialogue today (Thursday), he said Pakistan has alwaysstrived to strengthen its relations with China and Afghanistan in thebilateral as well as regional context.
The Foreign Minister said we strongly believe that peace, prosperity andeconomic development of our three countries are inter-linked.
He said the United States and NATO forces have already started withdrawalof troops from Afghanistan.
Shah Mahmood Qureshi said while the withdrawal of foreign troops fromAfghanistan entails serious security challenges, it also offers a uniqueopportunity for peace and reconciliation in Afghanistan.
He said we should explore that how our three neighbourly countries can worktogether to deal with the evolving situation in an effective manner andsteer it towards achieving our shared objective of lasting peace andstability in Afghanistan and the region.
The Foreign Minister said Pakistan, China and Afghanistan are located in aregion which have immense opportunities for fostering mutually beneficialeconomic and development cooperation.
He said durable peace and stability in Afghanistan would lead to aconducive environment for harnessing the true potential of regionalconnectivity and further deepening economic inter-dependence through use ofinnovation and technological advances.
Earlier, talking to Chinese Ambassador Nong Rong in Islamabad today,Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi says the leadership of Pakistan andChina is committed to timely completion of ongoing projects underChina-Pakistan Economic Corridor.
He said Special Economic Zones being established under CPEC will prove tobe game changer for the entire region.
The Foreign Minister said Pakistan is also offering special incentives toattract foreign investors in Special Economic Zones.
