Two Iranian fighter pilots killed at an airbase

Two Iranian fighter link jet pilots werekilled link in an accidentlink at a military airbase in thesouthwest of the country, state media reported.

The accident link happened before theF-5 plane they were in took off from the base in Dezful, the city’sgovernor Ali Farahmandpour was quoted as saying by state news agency IRNA.

The airbase was closed off and the cause of the accidentlink, initially described as “technical”,was being investigated, he added.

Farahmandpour said there was no “air accidentlink or crash” and that further detailson what happened would be made public after the investigation, according tostate television’s website.

Iran link armed forces still mainly useaircraft purchased before the country’s 1979 Islamic Revolution, with yearsof international sanctions making it increasingly difficult to purchaseparts for maintenance. – APP/AFP
