US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has slammed Indian government overrise in human rights abuses.
Blinken said the United States was monitoring what he described as a risein human rights link in India bysome officials, in a rare direct rebuke by Washington of the Asian nation’srights record.
“We regularly engage with our Indian partners on these shared values (ofhuman rights) and to that end, we are monitoring some recent concerningdevelopments in India including a rise in human rights abuses by somegovernment, police and prison officials,” Blinken said on Monday in a jointpress briefing with US Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin, Indian ForeignMinister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar and India’s Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
Blinken did not elaborate. Singh and Jaishankar, who spoke after Blinken atthe briefing, did not comment on the human rights issue.
