Namaz-e-Janaza of martyred officers and soldiers who embraced shahadat in ahelicopter crash at United Nations Mission Congo was offeredlink Sunday at Chaklala Garrison, reported24NewsHD TV channel.
Pakistan Army Spokesperson said that Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) GeneralQamar Javed Bajwa, serving and retired military personnel including theUnited Nations (UN) officials and relatives of shuhadas attended the funerallink prayer.
Eight UN peacekeepers link – sixPakistanis, a Russian and a Serb – were killed on Tuesday when a Pumahelicopter crashed in the troubled eastern Democratic Republic of Congo(DRC), UN and Pakistani officials said.
“While undertaking a reconnaissance mission in Congo, 1 Puma Helicoptercrashed. Exact cause of crash is yet to be ascertained,” the Pakistanimilitary’s media wing said. It added that six Pakistani troops were amongthose killed.
A spokesperson for the UN secretary-general, António Guterres, in New Yorkconfirmed the crash and gave the nationality of all eight victims.
Prime Minister, Imran Khan, expressed his “deep sense of shock and grief”,his office said, paying tribute to the global peace effort by the country’sarmed forces.
