China’s Eastern Theatre Command said it would conduct joint drills focusingon anti-submarine and sea assault operations – confirming the fears of somesecurity analysts and diplomats that Beijing would continue to maintainpressure on Taiwan’s defences.
Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan last week infuriated China, which regards theself-ruled island as its own and responded with test launches of ballisticmissiles over Taipei for the first time, as well as ditching some lines ofdialogue with Washington.
