ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) vice president MaryamNawaz on Monday expressed concerns over dual standards of judiciary incases against PML-N, its coalition partners and PTI.
She was addressing a fiery press conference along with leaders of coalitionpartners, including Maulana Fazlur Rahman, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, KhalidMagsi, Mohsin Dawar and Aimal Wali Khan, ahead of the hearing of a petitionagainst Punjab chief minister’s election in the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
Last week, a three-member bench, comprising Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial,Justice Ijazul Ahsan and Justice Muneeb, clipped powers of Hamza Shahbaz aschief minister after PML-Q leader Pervaiz Elahi challenged his election inthe top court. The apex court remarked that Punjab Assembly Deputy SpeakerDost Mohammad Mazari’s ruling to reject PML-Q’s ten votes is prima faciewrong.
Maryam Nawaz expressed concerns over the three-member bench as she fearedone-sided decision in the Punjab CM election case. “Bench fixing is alsocrime similar to match fixing,” she said while demanding the chief justiceto form a full court bench to hear the petition.
She said that institutions are insulted from within and not outside, addingthat an entire case is blown up with one wrong decision. “Rights decisionstrigger no criticism,” she said.
Maryam said that ever since Hamza became the chief minister, PTI leadershave been repeatedly approaching the top court.
Referring to the PTI’s July 22 petition against the chief minister’selection, Maryam said that the workers of the Imran Khan’s party brokeninto the building of the top court’s Lahore registry, adding that it wasopened in the night to facilitate PTI.
She recalled that former prime minister Nawaz Sharif was removed on abaseless Iqama case, adding that it was also for the first time inPakistan’s history that the court formed joint investigation teams againstPML-N.
“I was put in death cell but Imran Khan’s sister was asked to pay fine andget free,” she highlighted, adding that the top court also closed variouscases against PTI government, including BRT.
Fazlur Rahaman, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and other coalition partnersendorsed Maryam Nawaz’s statement and demanded that a full court bench tohear case against Punjab CM election.
