ECP reveals ready to hold elections in October 2022

ISLAMABAD – Election Commission of Pakistan announced that it is ready tohold the upcoming elections by the end of October this year, saying it isthe government that has to decide about the dates.

Secretary election body Omar Hameed Khan made the announcement whileholding a presser in the country’s federal capital.

The officials said the body will complete exercise of delimitatingconstituencies and preparing voter lists as per the Election Act, 2017before the end of this year.

Commenting on the use of electronic voting machines, the ECP officialmentioned that there are several protocols that needed to be followed forusing modern technology.

ECP revealed the preparation as former Pakistani prime minister Imran Khanhas been holding anti-government rallies across the country, calling forfresh elections.

Khan also warned the Sharif-led incumbent government that he will return tothe federal capital with the masses if his demand is not met’.

On the other hand, the newly installed government has decided to completeits constitutional tenure by August 2023. Members of the coalitiongovernment decided that the government would complete its constitutionaltenure to take the country out of the economic turmoil.
