Federal Government agrees to increase fuel and electricity prices on IMF demand

*WASHINGTON: Finance Minister Miftah Ismail on Sunday agreed withInternational Monetary Funds’ (IMF) recommendations to reduce fuelsubsidies phase-wise. *

Miftah Ismail held a meeting with the executive directors of theInternational Monetary Fund (IMF) in Washington for the revival of theExtended Fund Facility (EFF) programme.

Sources sy that the finance minister hinted to carry forward the IMFprogram and agreed to curb subsidies on the fuel and electricityphase-wise. Meanwhile, the IMF said it has no objection to the IncomeSupport Programme and added Pakistan can continue subsidies for themarginalised section of the society.

The IMF has also shown its consent to the continuation of the Sehat Cardscheme, the sources said.
