Federal Government decides to amend ECL law and rules

*ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz-led coalition government hasdecided to stop unnecessary use of the Exit Control List (ECL). *

The Exit Control List (ECL) committee formed during the first cabinetmeeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday hasrecommended amending the rules.

As per new rules, people will be placed at the ECL only when it isnecessary. The committee has also recommended fixing the time period forthe pleas seeking removal of the names from the ECL.

Sources within the law and justice ministry said that notificationregarding amendments in the rules will only be issued after the approvalfrom the federal cabinet.

On Wednesday, the cabinet, which met in Islamabad with PM Shehbaz Sharif inthe chair, has approved the formation of the Exit Control List (ECL)committee, said sources.
