Further increase in electricity prices

A request has been made to increase electricity rates for Karachi to 10rupees and 32 paise per unit.

The government’s request for an increase in electricity prices for Karachihas been submitted to NEPRA (National Electric Power Regulatory Authority).

This request includes adjustments for three different quarterly periods in2022. The request calls for a 47 paise increase per unit for the quarterlyadjustment from October to December 2022.

For the quarterly adjustment from July to September 2022, a request for anincrease of 4.45 rupees per unit has been made.

The government has also requested that the collection of these increasedrates be implemented in September and October 2023.

Furthermore, the government’s request states that the April to Junequarterly adjustment should also be applied to electric bills. Thisadjustment amounts to an increase of 5 rupees and 40 paise per unit. NEPRAwill review the government’s request on September 11th.
