Pace spearhead Shaheen Shah Afridi emphasized the importance of bowling inpartnerships as he discussed the strategy behind unsettling India’s battingin the Asia Cup blockbuster, which was ultimately abandoned due to rain.
He stated, ‘Mickey (Arthur) always says, “fast bowlers win youtournaments,” and we always aim to bowl in partnerships.’ Afridi alsohighlighted the roles of his fellow fast bowlers, Haris Rauf and NaseemShah, in creating fear and relying on swing respectively.”
Shaheen played a pivotal role in dismissing key Indian batsmen, RohitSharma and Virat Kohli, with Rohit falling to well-executed outswingers andKohli chopping on to a length delivery.
Reflecting on this, he noted, ‘Virat is the backbone of the Indian team,and getting his wicket was crucial.’
Despite the match ending in a draw due to rain, Shaheen remained confidentthat Pakistan could have emerged victorious without the weatherinterruption.
“We had the result in our hands. But overall the team performance in oneinnings was very good.”
His impressive opening spell earned praise from former speedster ShoaibAkhtar, who remarked, ‘I don’t think Rohit is able to read or understandShaheen at all.'”
