In Islamabad, Pakistan, Senator Aon Abbas Buppi of the PakistanTehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) announced on Friday his decision to part ways withthe party in light of the riots that occurred on May 9 following the arrestof former Prime Minister Imran Khan.
Buppi stated that he is resigning from his position as the PTI South Punjabchairman and has also chosen to step away from politics temporarily. Hestrongly condemned the May 9 riots, emphasizing the inseparable bondbetween the Pakistan army and the nation.
Subsequently, since May 9, several other PTI members, including formercabinet ministers Aamir Kiani and Malik Amin Aslam, have distancedthemselves from Imran Khan due to the violence that also affected militaryinstallations. Violent clashes erupted across Pakistan following ImranKhan’s arrest from the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday, promptingprotests in both remote and major cities. PTI workers, angered by theirchairman’s arrest, sought assistance from the armed forces in Balochistan,Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Islamabad to maintain law and order. Duringone such protest by PTI workers, there were attacks on army installationsand the Corps Commander’s house in Lahore.
