Health Card: Punjab government unveils new policy

In Lahore, the Punjab Health Initiative Management Company has introduced afresh policy for the coverage of health insurance cards, as reported by ARYNews on Thursday. The company has declared a revised policy for the extentof coverage for government health insurance cards within the Punjab region.

Cardholders will now be responsible for 30% of the costs for surgeriesrelated to hernia, appendicitis, gallstones, prostate, and obstetrics. Thisnew policy will become effective from September 1.

In June 2022, the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) hadpartnered with the health ministry for the Sehat Sahulat Programme, whichinvolves using computerized national identity cards (CNICs) as healthcards. The NADRA collaborated with the federal health ministry and thePunjab Health Initiative Management Company to establish the nationalhealth card and Sehat Sahulat Program. The signing ceremony for theagreement took place at the NADRA headquarters in Islamabad. Under the newsystem, eligible individuals will receive medical treatment at governmentand private hospitals for prescribed fees, utilizing their CNICs as healthcards.

The agreement between NADRA and the health ministry will facilitate dataverification processes, a central management information system, callcenter services, data hosting, and more.
