LHC announces verdict in plea to form judicial commission on May 9 riots

The Lahore High Court (LHC) has rejected the requests for a judicialinquiry and the formation of a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) under a highcourt judge on the matter of May 9 riots have been rejected.

The court dismissed the petitions as inadmissible.

Justice Shahid Bilal Hasan issued the reserved verdict, ruling the Punjabgovernment’s move to form JIT under the police officers is correct.

On May 9, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) activists took to the streets tovent their spleen over the arrest of ex-PM Imran Khan in a corruption case.

The protesters attacked public property, state assets and sensitiveinstallations across the country.

The mobsters stormed the GHQ in Rawalpindi, Corps Commander House in Lahoreand Radio Pakistan in Peshawar.

Innocent lives were lost while the violent protests left a trail ofdestruction.

The Punjab Home Department notified 53 joint investigation teams (JITs).

All 53 JITs have been constituted and notified after the approval of thePunjab cabinet sub-committee on law and order.
