Pakistan strongly raises concerns over supply of conventional and non conventional weapons to India

GENEVA: Pakistan has voiced its concern over the “generous” supply ofconventional and non-conventional weapons to India, noting that it wasseverely straining South Asia’s strategic stability and threateningnational security

The concerns were raised by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, HinaRabbani Khar while addressing the Geneva-based Conference on Disarmament, a65-member forum established by the international community to negotiate armcontrol and disarmament agreements.- Advertisement –

“The largest country in the region continues to be a beneficiary of nuclearexceptionalism, in violation of established non-proliferation norms andprinciples,” she told a high-level UN panel — without naming India — byvideo-link from Islamabad.

“This country also remains a net recipient of generous supplies of advancedconventional and non-conventional weapons, technologies and platforms,” theminister added.

The minister said that the favours being done to India were straining thesecurity environment; heightening risks to peace and stability in theregion; reinforcing a sense of impunity in the recipient state and freezingpathways to conflict resolution through peaceful means.

“Even as we adhere to and call for restraint and responsibility, we cannotignore threats to our security,” she told delegates from around the world.
