ISLAMABAD – A local court in the country’s federal capital Islamabad hasextended the physical remand of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf senior leader andsenator Azam Swati in a case of controversial tweets against militaryleadership.
Judicial Magistrate Muhammad Shabir heard the case against the defiantpolitician and extended his physical remand for another four days.
During today’s hearing, Swati’s counsel Babar Awan prayed before the courtto exempt the senator from appearing before the court citing threats to thePTI leader’s life.
After the arguments, the court directed the Federal Investigators to markSwat’s attendance through a video link. The case was then adjourned tillDecember 3 (Saturday).
In a similar development, the PTI leader approached the Islamabad HighCourt to get details of the cases filed against him in Sindh andBalochistan. Swati, 74, said he came to know about other cases after beingheld by FIA on physical remand.
Swati was detained for the second time by Federal Investigators in a caserelated to controversial tweets and statements against military leadership.The outspoken politician was detained a day after he addressed the party’srally in Pindi last night where he criticized military leadership.
The FIR stated that the PTI leader, along with two other social mediausers, started a highly obnoxious campaign against institutions and seniorgovernment functionaries, including outgoing army chief on a microbloggingplatform.
