Senator Azam Swati moves IHC against registration of cases by FIA

PTI leader and former federal minister Senator Azam Swati on Monday movedto Islamabad High Court challenging registration of cases against him bythe Federal Investigation Agency.

Swati filed a petition in the high court against filing of cases againsthim. It is stated in the petition that the FIA registered cases against himunder the PECA laws. But Swati was already released on bail in other suchcases.

The petition states that the PTI senator was made subject to the worst kindof torture during detention.

The petition further states that Swati has got intelligence that he mightbe killed during custody. Any inhuman treatment could be meted out to thesenator.

The petition says that when Swati was presented before the court, it wasrevealed that the case was registered in Quetta. Cases against him havealso been registered in different police stations in Sindh.

The petition implores the court to seek details of all cases against Swatiand ask authorities to ensure basic human rights in this case. It alsobeseeches the court to direct authorities to stop shifting of Swati toanother place.

The federal government, FIA, and inspector generals of Sindh andBalochistan have been made respondents in the petition.

PTI Chief Imran Khan in a series of tweets lamented the registration ofcases against Azam Swati while asking judges if Article 14 of ourConstitution which refers to the ‘inviolability of dignity of man’ is onlyapplicable to the powerful of the state and for everyone else there is noprotection of their basic human dignity.

Imran tweeted: “Article 14 of our Constitution refers to “Inviolability ofdignity of man”; so my question to our Honourable SC Judges is whether thisprovision is only applicable to the powerful of the State & for everyoneelse there is no protection of their basic human dignity?
