PM Shahbaz Sharif takes action over letter from GHQ on Arshad Sharif killing

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday decided to form a judicialcommission to investigate the murder of senior journalist Arshad Sharif inKenya on the request of the General Headquarters (GHQ).

The GHQ had also written a letter to the government to take legal actionagainst those involved in blaming the institution for the death of ArshadSharif. “An action should be taken in the light of the Constitution againstthose involved in blaming the institution,” it demanded.

In a video message, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced the formationof a high-level inquiry commission to probe the death of Arshad Sharif.

“I spoke to the President of Kenya on the phone yesterday. Today, we havedecided to form a high-level inquiry commission to probe this incident,” hesaid.

“The commission will be headed by a high court judge, and the endorsementof the inquiry commission will be taken from the cabinet,” he added.

“The facts will be brought before the entire nation by conducting atransparent investigation into Arshad Sharif’s case,” he pledged.

In a tweet, the prime minister said “I have decided to form a JudicialCommission to hold an inquiry into the killing of journalist Arshad Sharifin order to determine the facts of the tragic incident in a transparent &conclusive manner.”
