While hearing a petition of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) against recentamendments to the law of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), theSupreme Court (SC) Tuesday ordered to secure all the records of the NABreferences that had been returned.
A special three-member bench of the Supreme Court, headed by Chief JusticeUmar Ata Bandial, heard the petition.
The Supreme Court remarked that all the records should be digitized. Italso sought the details of all the NAB references that had been returned.
PTI’s lawyer Khawaja Harris adopted before the court that major casesincluding the rental power case had been disposed of.
“With the recent amendments, financial benefits of the third party havebeen taken out of the reach of the NAB,” he added.
“We are still looking for a criterion to test the NAB law,” the chiefjustice remarked.
“How can we design a law and send it to the Parliament?” Justice MansoorAli Shah questioned.
“Tomorrow, some citizens will come and ask NAB to investigate thecorruption of Rs10. This series should stop somewhere. Why and how can weinterfere in the affairs of Parliament? How can the Supreme Court determinewhat should be the NAB law?” he added.
“You argue that the NAB law is based on bad intention. How can we designthe law for the Parliament?” Justice Mansoor Ali Shah questioned further.
“In the past, the Supreme Court designed laws for the Parliament,” the PTIlawyer argued.
At this, the Supreme Court ordered to secure all the records of the NABreferences that had been returned.
The Supreme Court also ordered to digitisation of all the records andsought the details of the references that had been returned.
