US state department once again clarifies President Biden remarks on security of Pakistani nuclear weapons

WASHINGTON – Washington expressed confidence in Pakistan’s ability tosecure its nuclear assets, days after President Joe Biden termed the SouthAsian country ‘one of the most dangerous’ nations due to ‘nukes without anycohesion’.

As Biden’s controversial remarks sparked new controversy between Islamabadand Washington, both sides attempted not to thwart recent efforts to resetties.

US State Department spokesperson Vedant Patel, speaking with media onMonday, said the US had confidence in Islamabad’s ability to secure itsnuclear assets.

He added that Washington always viewed a secure and prosperous Pakistan ascritical to US interests and, more broadly, the US values our long-standingcooperation with the country.
