Federal Shariat Court gives verdict in Imran Khan – Bushra Bibi Nikkah case appeal

The review plea concerning the marriage of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)Chairman Imran Khan to Bushra Bibi has been addressed by the FederalShariat Court. Back in February 2022, the FSC had previously dismissed apetition that sought a decree regarding Imran Khan’s marriage. Recently,FSC Chief Justice Iqbal Hameedur Rehman, who led a three-judge bench, issued a ruling on this review plea. He emphasized that the court hadalready given its verdict on the matter pertaining to the Family Act of1964.

Moreover, Chief Justice Iqbal Hameedur Rehman pointed out that the casechallenging the FSC judgment was already under consideration by the SupremeCourt’s Shariat Appellate Bench. Consequently, the jurisdiction forreviewing the plea is restricted.

He advised the applicant, Shahid Orakzai, that it would be more suitable topursue the matter with the Shariat Appellate Bench. Justice Syed Anwaradded that knowledge is not exclusive to anyone and suggested that theapplicant seek legal counsel.

In its 2022 verdict, the FSC had ruled that the petition against ImranKhan’s marriage did not align with the legal procedures outlined in theFederal Shariat Court (Procedure) Rules of 1981. This decision underscoredthe importance of adhering to legal processes when filing such petitionswithin the Pakistani legal system.
