During the early hours of Sunday, a police constable lost his life in whatis believed to be a terrorist attack on a checkpoint situated in Mianwali.The incident occurred at the Kundal patrolling post in Esakhel, Mianwali,located just one kilometer from the Punjab-Khyber Pakhtunkhwa border.
Head Constable Haroon Khan, a member of the patrolling police, wastragically killed during the attack by the terrorists. An exchange ofgunfire then ensued between the security forces and the suspectedterrorists, resulting in injuries to two of the assailants.
Reports indicate that a group of 12 well-armed terrorists launched anassault on the checkpoint from two different directions. However, due tothe swift response of the police, the attackers fled from the scene underthe cover of darkness.
Additional police contingents and rescue teams were also dispatched to theKundal area in response to the situation.
