The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has made a firm decision regarding thedeadline for tax return submissions. While they have firmly decided not toextend the current deadline, they have introduced a provision for potentialextensions if individuals make prior applications to the relevantCommissioner.
Specifically, the FBR has set September 30th as the final date for filingincome tax returns, with no plans for an automatic extension. However,individuals may now apply for an extension of up to 15 days by submitting arequest to the Commissioner responsible for their case.
In light of this decision, FBR officials have shared encouragingstatistics. Thus far, over 1.7 million taxpayers have already filed theirtax returns, and it is anticipated that this number will surge past the 2million mark before September 30th.
This decision by the FBR reflects the importance of adhering to taxdeadlines while also acknowledging the need for flexibility in exceptionalcases. It underscores the government’s commitment to effective taxcollection and fiscal responsibility.
