According to the new rankings by the International Cricket Council (ICC),Indian and Pakistani teams will be in the first and second positionsrespectively in the World Cup, while Australia will remain in the thirdposition. No further changes are expected in the rankings before the ICCOne Day World Cup, which starts in India on October 5th.
Even in the One Day Batsmen rankings, there won’t be any changes, withCaptain Babar Azam in the first position and India’s Shikhar Dhawan in thesecond position.
Historically, teams that have won the World Cup since 1999 haveconsistently held the top two positions in the rankings. Pakistan, thewinner of the 1992 World Cup, was also in the second position in therankings before the tournament. Similarly, when Australia won the World Cupfor the second time in 1999, they were in the second position in therankings.
In 2011, India was in the second position in the rankings before the WorldCup, which was named after them. In 2015 and 2019, the teams that won theWorld Cup, Australia and England, respectively, were at the top of therankings.
