A specialized court dedicated to cases involving the Official Secrets Acthas prolonged the judicial detention of Imran Khan, the Chairman ofPakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), and Shah Mahmood Qureshi, the ViceChairman, until October 10 in the cypher case.
The presiding judge, Abul Hasnat Zulqarnain, conducted an in-camera hearingat Attock jail. The law ministry issued a no-objection certificate (NOC)for the jail-based hearing a day before. Present during the hearing werethe Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) team and Imran’s legalrepresentatives, Salman Safdar and Umair Niazi.
Naeem Haider Panjotha and Latif Khosa, lawyers for the former primeminister, also attended. The court subsequently extended Imran’s judicialdetention and instructed the FIA to promptly submit the case’s challan.Meanwhile, Qureshi appeared before the special court at the FederalJudicial Complex (FJC) in Islamabad, where he was likewise informed of theextension of his judicial remand until October 10.
Two weeks prior, a special court rejected the post-arrest bail requests ofImran and Qureshi in the diplomatic cypher case, citing the presence ofsufficient incriminating evidence to link them to the case.
Following this decision, Imran filed a petition in the Islamabad HighCourt (IHC) seeking post-arrest bail in the cypher case.
