Caretaker Interior Minister Sarfaraz Bugti addressed the controversysurrounding his statement on Tuesday concerning the potential arrest ofNawaz Sharif, the leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N). Bugticlarified that the caretaker government had no political motives behind hisstatement and that it had been taken out of context.
Bugti expressed his welcome to Nawaz Sharif’s desire to rejoin Pakistan’spolitical landscape and acknowledged the preparations of a significantportion of the Pakistani population to welcome him.
He emphasized that upon Nawaz Sharif’s return, he would be treated inaccordance with the law, emphasizing the need to dispel rumors andassumptions in favor of a realistic assessment of the situation. Thecaretaker government, he assured, would operate within its designatedmandate.
Former information minister Marriyum Aurangzeb responded to Bugti’sstatement, advising him to consider his political stature in his remarks.She asserted that Nawaz Sharif’s post-airport destination was neitherBugti’s concern nor his decision to make. Instead, she urged him to focuson utilizing his authority and readiness to ensure the security and peaceof the people, leaving the decision of Nawaz Sharif’s post-airport plans toNawaz Sharif and the people.
Marriyum Aurangzeb also highlighted Nawaz Sharif’s status as a three-timeelected prime minister and argued that he had been unfairly persecuted withfalse allegations and baseless charges. She lamented that this persecutionhad damaged every sector of the country and left the populace hungry andunemployed, attributing the woes of the nation to this vendetta againstNawaz Sharif.
