In Karachi, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has disclosed thetimetable for the Sindh Local Government (LG) by-polls concerning UCchairpersons and vice-chairpersons.
According to the ECP, these by-polls are scheduled for November 5, aimingto elect nine Union Council (UC) chairpersons and 16 vice-chairpersonsacross Sindh. The by-elections will encompass 74 general seats throughoutthe province, with the nomination submission deadline set for October 7.
Furthermore, the commission has also unveiled the schedule for LG pollsrelated to 812 reserved seats across 29 districts. Nominations for thesepolls must also be submitted by October 7, with polling scheduled forOctober 20.
Earlier this month, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) issueddirectives to the chief secretaries of the four provinces and the chiefcommissioner of Islamabad, instructing them to commence preparations forthe general elections in the last week of January 2024.
These preparations include administrative support, logistical assistance,and secure storage for election materials. Additionally, the ECP announcedthat the initial list for the delimitation of constituencies would bepublished on September 27, with the final delimitation list set forNovember 30, leading to the general elections in the last week of January2024, following a 54-day election schedule.
