Two Pakistani cities declared Sister cities with Chinese cities

ISLAMABAD (APP) – China and Punjab province signed Letters of Intent (LoI)to establish sister-city relations between Sahiwal and Wuzhong as well asBahawalpur and Zhongwei to strengthen the bond of friendship between Chinaand Pakistan.

Zhou Yihe, the deputy mayor of Wuzhong city and Kang Jun Jie, the deputymayor of Zhongwei represented their cities in the signing ceremony.

Punjab Minister of Agriculture and Industrial Development SM Tanvir signedthe two agreements from the Pakistani side, according to the PakistanEmbassy in Beijing.

The signing of the letters of intent for friendly cooperation between thetwo sides was held during Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi’s visit toNingxia Hui, an autonomous region in China, from during the sixthChina-Arab Expo held in Yinchuan, Ningxia.

The chief minister was accompanied by a 15-member delegation comprisingprovincial ministers and high-ranking officials.

During the visit, the Punjab chief minister met with the provincialleadership of Ningxia and exchanged views on the avenues to enhancecooperation between the two sister provinces, Ningxia and Punjab.

Wuzhong is the second most populous city of the region, specializing indiary, smart agriculture and food processing.

Zhongwei, predominantly a desert city, has been developed as a centre ofrenewable energy, including solar and wind farming, and also as a modelbase in the region’s drive for oasification in desert areas.

The friendship agreements entail cooperation in a range of areas,especially agriculture, education, healthcare, economy and trade, scienceand technology and tourism.

The latest agreements seek to further promote people-to-people exchanges,which have grown significantly, including due to the establishment of over40 sister province and sister city relationships between various cities andregions of China and Pakistan.
