Before the commencement of the Cricket World Cup 2023, India is scheduledto play two ODI matches against Australia. If Australia manages to defeatIndia in the remaining two matches, Pakistan could once again claim the topspot in the rankings. However, if the Australian team wins both matches, the Aussies will become the number one ODI team once again, entering theWorld Cup in excellent form.
It’s worth noting that Pakistan had recently secured the number one spotin the rankings by defeating Afghanistan in a three-match ODI series in SriLanka in August.
However, due to their poor performance in the Asia Cup 2023, Pakistanslipped to the third position in the ODI rankings. But when South Africawon a five-match ODI series against Australia in Australia, Pakistanreclaimed the top position in the ICC rankings. Pakistan will kick offtheir World Cup campaign on October 6th in Hyderabad, facing theNetherlands in their opening match.
