Hasan Ali’s inclusion in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 squad came as asurprise, as he replaced the injured Naseem Shah for the tournament set totake place in India from November 5th to November 19th.
Pakistan’s Chief Selector, Inzamam-ul-Haq, described Hasan Ali’s selectionas “forced.”
However, former cricketer Mohammad Asif expressed dissatisfaction withHasan Ali’s inclusion, suggesting that it was due to his friendship withcaptain Babar Azam and his association with a specific group of players, referred to as the “Roti Lobby” – a group known for sharing meals withinthe cricket circuit.
Asif claimed that such lobbies tend to favor their members in teamselection. Mohammad Asif also criticized captain Babar Azam’s battingapproach, noting that while he respects Azam as a prolific batter, Azamtends to struggle in the power-play, which can create pressure onwicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan.
Regarding the selection of Salman Ali Agha, Asif expressed his skepticism, stating that he does not consider him a player and believes hiscontributions are limited, often coming when the team has already amassed asignificant number of runs.
