PPP leader Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah has offered advice to the PML-N,discouraging them from pursuing action against former army chief Gen (retd)Qamar Javed Bajwa and retired Lt-Gen Faiz Hamid, the former spymaster, andadvising against confrontations on this matter.
These remarks from the senior PPP leader come in response to recent strongstatements from PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif, who held these two officialsresponsible for his removal from power in 2017 and the ongoing crises inthe country.
Nawaz Sharif’s statement included allegations against former chief justicesSaqib Nisar and Asif Saeed Khosa, whom he referred to as tools of theformer army chief and his spy chief.
He expressed a determination to hold them accountable for their actions.Similarly, PML-N leader Rana Sanaullah criticized former generals Bajwa andHamid, labeling them “national criminals” and demanding action againstthem, pledging to bring them to justice.
During an interview on DawnNewsTV’s ‘Doosra Rukh,’ Khursheed Shahresponded to Nawaz’s statement, suggesting that the PML-N’s plan to pursuethe two former military leaders appeared challenging to materialize.
He referred to the example of former military dictator Musharraf, who facedlegal proceedings but later left the country for medical treatment.Khursheed Shah advised the PML-N to avoid engaging in such conflicts andinstead focus on ensuring fair elections, addressing rising inflation,adhering to the Charter of Democracy, and establishing good governancepractices.
He expressed the PPP’s interest in cooperation and institution-building andemphasized the importance of parliament. Regarding the demand for a levelplaying field in elections from the PML-N, Shah pointed out that someindividuals associated with Nawaz’s party were part of the incumbentcaretaker government.
He also made a comment about the influence of the Establishment Division’ssecretary in the current political landscape. When asked about the processof appointing the interim prime minister, he confirmed that theannouncement of Anwaarul Haq Kakar’s appointment was made after boththen-PM Shehbaz and former opposition leader Raja Riaz were handed writtenchits with the caretaker premier’s name.
