For Mohammad Amir, the doors to the national team have not been closed.After retiring from international cricket in 2020 following a conflict withcricketing authorities, Pakistan’s Chief Selector Inzamam-ul-Haq stated ina press conference on Friday, “Everyone knows that Amir is a very talentedcricketer.
He has retired, but if he wants to play for Pakistan, the doors are openfor everyone.” The Chief Selector asked the players if they want to be apart of the national team, emphasizing the need for strong performances indomestic leagues. Inzamam-ul-Haq made it clear that neither the selectioncommittee nor the cricket board closes the doors for any player.
He said, “If any player wants to represent Pakistan, they should perform infirst-class cricket. If they perform well, they will be considered forselection, including Mohammad Amir.”
This statement by the Chief Selector was made during his press conferencein Lahore, where he announced the 15-member squad for the upcoming ICCMen’s World Cup 2023. Fans on social media had speculated that since therehave been changes in the PCB’s top officials, Amir might be able to make acomeback to the team, but he was not included in the squad.
