On Wednesday, Pakistan unveiled their 15-player squad for the upcoming ICCMen’s ODI World Cup 2023, which will be held in India. Chief SelectorInzamam-ul-Haq provided insight into the reasoning behind including AbrarAhmed and Zaman Khan as reserves for the national cricket team.
Inzamam emphasized the importance of maintaining squad continuity, statingthat the decision aimed to preserve stability within the team whilerecognizing the skills and potential of the current spinners in the lineup.
He explained the presence of Abrar Ahmed in the reserves, clarifying thatthey wanted to minimize excessive changes. Inzamam noted that the threespinners, Shadab Khan, Usama Mir, and Mohammad Nawaz, have been part of theteam and possess the required talent.
He emphasized their need to work harder to play a crucial role in themiddle overs. Regarding the absence of Hassan Ali during the 2023 Asia Cup,which led to Zaman’s initial selection, Inzamam acknowledged Zaman’sproficiency, especially in the death overs.
However, he stressed the importance of experience in major events like theWorld Cup, expressing the need for someone with prior experience in suchtournaments.
