At the United Nations, Interim Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jilaniexpressed concern about the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) strainingrelations with Afghanistan.
He called on Afghanistan’s current government to take tangible stepsagainst this banned militant group. Speaking with TRT World during theUnited Nations General Assembly in New York, Jilani lamented that Pakistancontinues to face attacks originating from Afghanistan.
He urged Afghanistan to honor its commitments in combating terrorism.Jilani pointed out that Afghanistan had previously pledged not to permitits soil for activities against other nations.
He emphasized that TTP attacks originating in Afghanistan remain asignificant worry for Pakistan. While Pakistan desires stability andprosperity for Afghanistan, the presence of various terrorist groups,including TTP and ISIS-K, poses a complex challenge.
Furthermore, Jilani noted that these concerns extend beyond Pakistan,affecting regional countries as well. He mentioned that Pakistan engaged indialogue with the interim Afghan Taliban government, emphasizing the needfor them to fulfill their commitments not to allow Afghan territory to beused against other countries, as agreed upon with both Pakistan and theinternational community.
