India gets a big blow from US over crisis with Canada

US authorities have maintained close communication with their Canadiancounterparts regarding allegations implicating the Indian government in theassassination of Sikh separatist leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Canada. Asenior State Department official, speaking on Tuesday, emphasized theimportance of a thorough and transparent investigation and urged India tocollaborate with the probe.

The official stated, “We’ve maintained close contact with our Canadiancounterparts concerning this matter. We express deep concern about theseallegations and emphasize the need for a comprehensive and transparentinvestigation. We call upon the Indian Government to actively cooperatewith this inquiry.”

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau asserted that credible allegationslinking New Delhi’s agents to the assassination were under active pursuit,a claim India promptly dismissed as baseless.
