The US military announced the discovery of debris from a crashed F-35fighter jet in South Carolina on Monday, just one day after appealing tothe public for assistance in locating the elusive wreckage.
The pilot of the F-35B Lightning II jet had ejected safely from theaircraft on Sunday afternoon.On Sunday, Joint Base Charleston had used thesocial media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) to request thatindividuals “contact the Base Defense Operations Center” if they had anyinformation that could aid recovery teams.A mere day later, those searchteams successfully located the wreckage.
In a statement, the base reported, “Personnel from Joint Base Charlestonand @MCASBeaufortSC, in close collaboration with local authorities, havediscovered a debris field in Williamsburg County.
The debris was located two hours northeast of JB Charleston.” They alsoexpressed gratitude to local, county, and state officials for theirassistance.
