In a significant development, the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA)has made the decision to construct a cutting-edge air traffic control (ATC)tower at Jinnah International Airport in Karachi, as reported by ARY News.
During a board meeting held in Karachi, the Pakistan Civil AviationAuthority (PCAA) approved essential measures aimed at enhancing airportinfrastructure and safety. The authority has opted to build a world-classAir Traffic Control (ATC) tower and a Rescue Fire Fighting (RFF) complex atJinnah International Airport. Sources have indicated that the existing ATCtower, which has been in operation for an impressive 91 years, has heightlimitations and is no longer deemed suitable for modern aviationrequirements.
The approval for a new, modern ATC tower is expected to not only addressthese limitations but also significantly enhance visibility and flightsafety. The project is anticipated to be completed within a year.
Additionally, the decision to establish an RFF complex aims to bolsterfire safety measures at Karachi airport. This complex will accommodate fireoffices and state-of-the-art fire stations, ensuring swift and efficientresponses to emergency situations.
The PCAA spokesperson noted that due to foreign exchange accounting formore than 25 percent of the project’s design cost, approval is requiredfrom the Central Tender Working Party (CTWP).
The spokesperson added that once this approval is obtained, the CAA willproceed to formalize an agreement with the selected consultant for theproject.
Furthermore, the spokesperson emphasized that the location and heightspecifications of the new tower will strictly adhere to internationalstandards and modern aviation requirements, ensuring its effectiveness andcompliance with global aviation norms.
