Misbah-ul-Haq has come to the defense of current captain Babar Azam amidincreasing criticism of the national team’s Asia Cup performance.Misbah-ul-Haq, who also serves as the PCB Technical Committee Chairman,addressed concerns about Pakistan’s recent struggles in cricket during apress conference today.
During the conference, Misbah acknowledged that there were errors madeduring the Asia Cup but remained optimistic about the team’s potential inthe upcoming World Cup. He expressed, “While our performance in the AsiaCup was disappointing, it’s crucial to recognize that cricket is a dynamicsport, and setbacks are part of the journey. The team’s confidence hastaken a hit, but our focus should now be on enhancing our performance.”
Misbah-ul-Haq stressed that the 228-run defeat was not solely theresponsibility of Captain Babar Azam but a collective failure of the entireteam.
He stated, “We’ve overcome challenging situations before, and I believethis team has the capacity to rise to the occasion.”
Regarding calls for significant changes in the team, Misbah-ul-Haqcautioned against making hasty decisions, pointing out that the currentsituation did not permit extensive alterations.
He cautioned, “Implementing too many changes at this stage could disruptthe team’s chemistry and morale, which would be counterproductive. We needto work with the players we have and help them improve.”
