PM Kakar makes important decision over excessive electricity bills

Caretaker Prime Minister Awaar-ul-Haq Kakar stated on Saturday that thegovernment is streamlining the power sector to ensure consumers are notburdened with excessive electricity bills, as reported by Radio Pakistan.

During an interview with a private news network, he emphasized thesignificance of coordinating the responsibilities across various levels andclearly defining their authority boundaries. The Prime Minister pointed outthat a well-functioning democracy requires an accountability mechanism formonitoring public officials, but this process should not destabilize thesystem.

He referred to the NAB law changes passed by the previous legislature andsubsequently overturned by the Supreme Court as “commendable legislation”and affirmed that the government’s future actions would be guided by thelegal department’s counsel.

Additionally, he mentioned the implementation of a comprehensive governmentstrategy, developed in collaboration with the provinces, to combatelectricity theft and smuggling, which is showing positive outcomes.Furthermore, he highlighted that apart from tackling power theft, theongoing campaign will also address issues related to non-payment and latepayment of electricity bills.
