Attock Jail officials refuse to accept court orders regarding Imran Khan

The superintendent of Attock Jail has informed the court that Imran Khanwill not be granted permission to communicate with his sons via telephone, citing adherence to prison regulations. This response was provided as partof a contempt petition, wherein the superintendent clarified thatindividuals incarcerated under the Official Secrets Act are not entitled tothe privilege of telephonic communication.

Additionally, the superintendent submitted a document from the PunjabPrison Foundation, which explicitly states that, in accordance with thePrison Rules of 1978, overseas calls are prohibited for all inmates.Consequently, the superintendent emphasized that denying the phone call didnot constitute a breach of any legal provisions, as no court orders hadbeen violated.

Judge Abu Alhasnaat Zulqurnain has scheduled a hearing for September 18 toconsider further arguments in response to the superintendent’s explanation.

This case raises significant questions about the balance between anindividual’s rights and the constraints imposed by prison regulations, andit will be of great interest to see how the court ultimately resolves thismatter
