President Arif Alvi gives November 9 as General Elections date in Pakistan

The President of the country, Dr. Arif Alvi, has recommended November 6thas the date for general elections throughout the country.

President Arif Alvi has written a letter to Chief Election CommissionerSikander Sultan Raja, in which he stated that he dissolved the NationalAssembly on August 9th on the advice of the Prime Minister.

The letter states that it is the President’s prerogative to set a date forgeneral elections within 90 days, and Chief Election Commissioner has beeninvited for a meeting to fulfill constitutional responsibilities andestablish a procedure to enforce the constitution and its directives.

According to the text of the President’s letter, the Chief ElectionCommissioner responded to the contrary, asserting that it is the ElectionCommission’s prerogative and that the National Assembly and provincialassemblies are to strengthen the federation
