In Islamabad, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) reached a significantmilestone on Tuesday as it concluded the proceedings for PTI chief ImranKhan’s petition challenging the decision to conduct the cipher case hearingat Attock jail. A single bench, presided over by Chief Justice of IHC,Justice Aamer Farooq, oversaw the hearings and eventually reserved itsjudgment after listening to arguments from both parties.
The focal point of contention during the hearing was the legitimacy oftransferring the trial venue from Islamabad to Punjab. Sher Afzal Marwat, the lawyer representing Chairman PTI, presented a crucial query regardingthe legal authority responsible for this transfer.
He questioned the Ministry of Law’s jurisdiction in making such a decision, emphasizing that only the Supreme Court holds the power to change a trial’svenue across provinces. Moreover, Marwat firmly asserted that Imran Khan’scontinued detention at Attock Jail was unjust, especially considering thathe had been granted bail in the Toshakhana case.
The crux of the matter lies in the legal intricacies surrounding thetransfer of a trial location, with Chairman PTI’s counsel contending thatthis process should have necessitated a petition before the trial judge. The proceedings underscore the growing concerns surrounding the detentionof Imran Khan, especially when he has already been granted bail in aseparate case.
This case raises questions about the proper application of legal proceduresand the constitutional authorities responsible for making such decisions, further emphasizing the significance of the Islamabad High Court’s upcomingverdict in determining the course of this high-profile case
