On Wednesday, Karachi’s top police official, Additional Inspector GeneralKhadim Hussain Rind, expressed suspicions regarding the potentialinvolvement of India’s intelligence agency, RAW, in a tragic incident. Theincident in question unfolded in Karachi’s Gulistan-e-Johar area theprevious night, where Ziaur Rehman, a 45-year-old cleric who served as theMohtamim of Jamia Masjid Abu Bakar, fell victim to a fatal shooting.
The unfortunate event occurred as Ziaur Rehman was strolling within a parknear his residence, located in close proximity to the FBR Office in Johar’sBlock-14. Two assailants, riding a motorcycle, approached him, and in ashocking act of violence, they shot and critically injured him beforemaking a swift escape. Despite being rushed to a hospital for immediatemedical attention, Ziaur Rehman succumbed to his injuries, marking a tragicloss for the community.
Sheikh Zia ur Rahman, the deceased cleric, held a significant role as theadministrator of Jamia Abu Bakr Madrassah, a seminary situated in Gulshan’sBlock 5.
Karachi’s police chief, Khadim Hussain Rind, promptly categorized thisincident as an act of terrorism, fearing its potential to disrupt thecity’s law and order, especially with the approaching Rabiul Awwalobservance. In response to this grave situation, Rind issued directives foran inquiry led by the DIG East and immediate apprehension of the culprits.
Moreover, the Karachi police’s Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) hadgathered crucial pieces of evidence from the crime scene. Preliminaryinvestigations hinted at the possible involvement of a neighboringcountry’s clandestine agency, RAW. The collection of seven 9mm pistolcasings and three 30-bore pistol casings provided valuable leads for theongoing investigation, raising concerns about international implications inthis tragic event
