The International Hockey Federation has canceled Pakistan’s hosting of theOlympic qualifying round, citing differences with the Pakistan HockeyFederation (PHF). The FIH communicated this decision to the PHF via aletter.
Sources suggest that interference from the Pakistan Sports Board in PHFaffairs contributed to the FIH’s choice. Additionally, ongoing criticism ofthe hockey federation by former Olympians further impacted the hostingdecision. In the letter explaining its decision, the FIH cited uncertaintywithin and around the PHF, making it unfit to host these events.
Notably, this would have been Pakistan’s inaugural hosting of the Olympicqualifying round, which was scheduled for January 13 to 21, 2024, inLahore. Recently, the Pakistan Sports Board suspended all PHF officialsbased on recommendations from the former Prime Minister
