New developments in Bushra Bibi audio leak case

Chairman PTI Imran Khan’s wife, Bushra Bibi, and former special assistantZulfi Bukhari’s alleged audio leak was circulated some time ago. BushraBibi filed a petition against the Islamabad High Court, alleging misconductby the police and the FIA. She sought Sardar Latif Khosa’s mediation in herrequest, which also implicated Prime Minister Imran Khan.

The petition claimed that recording home phone conversations withoutconsent and authority should be declared illegal, with no legal standing.Pending the final decision, both parties were restrained from taking anyaction against Bushra Bibi. The request asserted that baseless andunfounded audio recordings were being used to harass Bushra Bibi by thepolice and FIA.

Unfounded audios were associated with Bushra Bibi by broadcasting them onvarious channels, causing harm to her basic rights. Bushra Bibi, areligious and veiled woman, has no political affiliations. She referencedJustice Babar Sattar’s orders in the case of Mian Najam ul Saqib, the sonof former Chief Justice Saqib Nisar, who was involved in an audio leakcase. The National Assembly’s Special Parliamentary Committee had summonedNajam ul Saqib.

The court had previously requested answers from both parties during thehearing. Additional Attorney General stated that he was not present inIslamabad, so he requested more time. Justice Babar Sattar suggestedcontinuing the case and gathering responses. He warned that if they failedto respond, he would summon the relevant secretaries.

The status of whether to maintain surveillance or not and what the datawould reveal is to be disclosed. The data had already been released fromthe Prime Minister’s House. The court directed the Interior Secretary,Defense Secretary, and the Prime Minister’s Office to collect responseswithin two weeks and summoned them for a personal hearing in the nextsession. The court scheduled further hearings in the case until September18th.
